Genesis of a Firm with Jerry Merriman and Milton Anderson

Enoch SearsAug 8, 2020

Today, I speak with Jerry Merriman and Milton Anderson. Jerry Merriman is the Founder and President of Merriman Anderson Architects based out of downtown Dallas, Texas.

Opening as a small family business over 33 years ago, MAA now compromises 100 employees between their Dallas, Austin and Charlotte offices. In 2019, MAA was ranked #169 on Architectural Record’s Top 300 Architecture Firms list, and they've received many other awards and recognitions.

The firm's project portfolio includes the two largest redevelopment projects in downtown Dallas’ history, the $255 million renovation of the Statler Hotel and the $350 million renovation of the 52-storey, 1.5 million square foot, former First National Bank Tower, 1401 Elm. The 1401 Elm project is the largest renovation and abatement project in the state and one of the largest skyscraper conversions in the United States. So the firm has done some very large-scale work.

Milton Anderson, who is also joining us, is a partner at the firm and has been designing, directing and masterplanning since 1986. He previously served as MAA’s Director of Design in that position since 1997. His extensive experience covers a multitude of billing types and sizes. each carefully tailored to the unique client budget and city.
